Caroline Eidsten Dahl is one of Norway’s most active recorder players, equally at home in the ornamented sound world of early music and the open, exploratory language of contemporary music. She performs extensively throughout Norway and internationally, appearing regularly as a soloist and chamber musician in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, and Italy.

Caroline has released five solo albums on LAWO Classics, all to glowing reviews in both Norwegian and international media. She is a member of several acclaimed ensembles – Ensemble C4, Ensemble Freithoff, Woodpeckers Recorder Quartet, and Bragernes Barokk – and also performs with new collaborations such as Eco Nordica (a Swedish–Norwegian baroque ensemble), a duo with pianist Lina Braaten, and a duo with hurdy-gurdy player Guntar Prānis.

Her artistic work is characterized by curiosity and collaboration, with a strong commitment to developing new repertoire for the recorder. She has premiered numerous works by composers including Herman Vogt, Knut Vaage, Lene Grenager, Bjørn Kruse, and Kjell Mørk Karlsen, and is dedicated to renewing the recorder’s place in contemporary musical life – as an instrument with both historical depth and modern relevance.

A central part of Caroline’s artistic practice is music outreach for children and young audiences. She performs around 30 concerts annually for this group, aiming to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a deep sense of listening through live music experiences.

In 2023, Caroline was awarded the Norwegian Government’s three-year Artist Grant, recognizing her ongoing contribution to the renewal and visibility of the recorder within Norwegian and Nordic musical life.
